2008

Pesticide Safety Education Program: Over 250,000 pounds of pesticides were collected and disposed of in late 2007-2008.  Over 10,000 pounds of pesticide plastic was collected and chipped for recycling in 2008 at public collections.  Historically, private collections are two to three times the public collections.

Ordure Luncheon Seminar Series: The Waste Management and Air Quality groups of the EQ & WM team have revived the Ordure Luncheon Seminar Series, taking a broader definition of waste management.  Topics include the production, handling, treatment, reuse, economics, or environmental consequences of manure, biosolids, municipal solid waste, food processing wastes, septage, or industrial discharges.  The seminar takes place on the OSU Stillwater campus the last Wednesday of each month from 12:00 until 1:30, unless there is a holiday.  The luncheon is also broadcast throughout the OSU System using Centra.  Contact Doug Hamilton, 405-744-7089 for more details.

Homeowner Nutrient Management Outreach April 2008: Conference entitled "Managing Lawns, Gardens, and Golf Courses to Protect Water Quality in Grand Lake" was conducted in Grove, OK April 17, 2008 and offered by OSU Cooperative Extension, Oklahoma Conservation Commission, US EPA, and Grand Lake Association.  Materials utilized included Hailin Zhang's and William Raun's 2008 extension publication Oklahoma Homeowner's Handbook of Soil and Nutrient Management, 2nd ed..   Thirty-five people attended, and more Grand Lake watershed citizens have been exposed to the materials through Oklahoma Conservation Commission's CLEAR GRAND web site.

2007

A Water Forum conference was held March 29-30, 2007 in Oklahoma City, OK.  See the following link for the agenda. http://waterquality.okstate.edu/oldsite/EVENTS/WaterForum/  Organized by the Water Issues team, thirty-six people attended from 5 states: OK, NM, AR, TX, and ID.
